These mealworms are about 1/4-1/2 of an inch in length, but because they are a natural product sizes may vary slightly. Mealworms have long been a staple feeder insect in the reptile, amphibian, and bird hobby.

Mealworms are larvae of the darkling beetle Tenebrio molitor, and are inexpensive and easy to store before feeding them to your animals.

How to Store:

Mealworms can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks with very little maintenance. The mealworm bedding is their food source. After two weeks, the mealworms should be removed from the refrigerator, and a small amount of cricket cube or a baby carrot should be added to the top of the bedding. Allow the mealworms to stay at room temperature for about 24 hours. This will allow them enough time to "wake up" and become more active so that they can consume food and water before being put back into stasis. This process should be repeated every 2 weeks.

As mealworms worms go bad, they will become dark in color and eventually turn black and hard  or excessively soft. Discard any black mealworms. Older mealworms may pupate. Discard the pupae or please feed to other critters because if they hatch into their adult form, they develop a much more powerful bite and have been known to unalive jumping spiders. Under ideal conditions, mealworms should keep for several weeks to possibly several months.
